3 Oak Trees: Personal check-in from Shiloh
I’m sitting outside right now, being with the three sisters, the three oak trees. I feel like I’ve been on the move for a couple years and I wanted to offer a personal check-in with you.
When the 2017 fires came to Sonoma, it completely rearranged how I felt about life and safety. Something in my spirit put me on a flight and I’ve moved to several homes since that all facilitated this sense of getting somewhere safer.
Two homes were by the water, but we couldn’t find a place we could afford or wanted, so we finally settled into a home on a mountain. At the time, this land had never experienced the fires the way other parts of Sonoma and Napa had. Yet over two years, we had to evacuate 14 times with harrowing experiences leaving our home as the hills were on fire. The road we lived on was so burned, many of the trees had to be cleared for fire safety, and insurance went up.
Ultimately, even with all of my self care skills, I wasn’t able to convince myself that a long time life made sense living there. Especially considering every time there was heat or wind we had to turn off the electricity. The loss of plants, food and garden was incalculable. My spirit was waning – that feeling of never being able to rest.
Today I’m reporting that we moved into a neighborhood so I can feel safe and be close to work. The drive is 10 min from Musea and Musette. We have lovely artists who are renting the residential space in Musea.
We have a long road ahead of us in so many ways. But yesterday, Jonathan made dinner at home, and it’s been many many months without this particular feeling. The kitties are settling in too!
This feeling of being on the run has impacted almost every area of my life. I was almost obsessed with work. While I love what I do, there were things I felt urgent about sharing with the walking on of both my mother and father, and Carmen Baraka, our Native American elder in our community. The loss of what I was carrying in my medicine basket was at an all-time high.
We are now finally landed, and today I wanted to share about these three oak trees… I recall the real estate agent mentioning an oak tree on the property. I was so connected to Eleanore the oak tree and the ravens that I’ve shared about at our last home, so this was the first thing I went to when we came to the house. There are three! They are illuminated by light at night and are tended, watered and not distressed. We are also just a stone’s throw from a creek.
I never imagined living in this house, but just sitting and listening to the oak trees and their wind is healing. A part of me is starting to relax into myself and I am using these next few months to integrate into the work coming through me.
Through all of these flights and evacuations, the desire to share Intentional Creativity is as strong as ever. This is my devotion and ministry, and you do your ministry no matter what. Sharing Intentional Creativity with you has been life-saving on so many levels.
The spaceship has landed and we are doing well. We are proceeding with our beautiful new gallery, Musette. Our museum and school, Musea, is also evolving… Our new home is half the size of our old home so half our furniture is there. We look forward to welcoming students to our events planned this summer and beyond…
There is so much more to come. I am feeling called to offer our signature course, LEGEND, in person with a livestream, and look forward to sharing more with you soon!
I am so grateful to our team and everyone who has supported and loved us along the way. It has been really rough, and when I was getting dressed today I felt I was going to be okay. I am eating well, meditating and enjoying beauty.
I know we are all going through so many things – climate, finances, the war, and so many other things. When I send these Red Thread Letters, I always want you to know I’m truly, authentically, deeply thinking of you and sending my love and understanding.
Every single day I do Intentional Creativity to regulate my nervous system and connect with my muse who is always ready with a cuppa tea and a story. I invite you to do the same.
May beauty and grace infuse our lives and everything we are going through.
With so much love,
