falling in love with the world
my sisters my brothers
and all my in betweens
let’s fall in love
again again and again
this place we live
this very earth is
our home, our paradise
our mothership extraordinaire!
flirt with the beauty
summon the sensuality
invite the splendor to dance
give praise to every mountain
let us see what there is
not only what it is not
let us see who there is
not point at who we are not
there are policies, treaties, rights,
justices gone awry, translations
polls, votes, sides and traditions
cultures, cults and curiosities
and all the while….
there has to be days,
entire long sun-filled blazing days
thunder pounding heart pounding
rain coming days of beauty blessed
there has to be days
days of laying in grass in rest
resting on hillsides in sunshine
spaces where sabbath takes us
makes love to us in slowness
naked slow dance at pink dawn
nurture moonlight with parted lips
pause to praise the darkness
lift your breast to praise the light
every creature, every plant, every bird,
the rock, the tree, every spirit is our sibling
our ancestor, our descendant, our love
this is how we save what matters
how we smile into adversity
how our renegade spirit finds delight
how we fall in love with the world
and all the while…
there are days for naming,
days for blaming and even
days we feel ashamed of being
but… more days are made for loving
more days are made for loving
than we ever imagined could be
all that is required is your presence,
your devoted company
pull up a chair
set down your weary bags
take off the shoes of gravity
listen to the wind in trees
falling in love with the world
happens in a second,
it could be this one for you,
this very second can be your union
if we do not fall in love with the world again
the lights will go out
the fights will shout
the doubt will destroy our knowing
and all the while….
fall in love with your craft
pull out your colors and songs
reset your altar and devotions
embrace the impossible beauty of this
know what you know
love what you love
stop withholding your glory
show us who you are
show us who you are
we need you, I need you
this world has need of your company
pull up a chair, I will meet you there
falling in love with the world
is not only for mystics, for the gifted
this is for you, for me,
for every being, every river, every wind
lay your head upon your family
lay your face upon the table of time
lay your burdens at the foot of longing
choose to fall in love with the world
amen.
do you hear me?

Red Thread Letter #761
Dear One,
Yesterday we completed a celebration of the feminine, of circle, of red thread, of sisterhood, it was called Invocation. I co-lead this experience with two of my dear friends, Dr. Mary McCrystal and Lavender Grace, two of the most potent teachers of personal medicine I have ever had the pleasure of working with. We each brought our gifts, Lavender brought song and dance, Mary brought ceremony and altar teachings, I brought creativity through image and painting medicine symbols on our drums. Each one of us wrote a story of our drum, as if the drum was speaking. I was left with a feeling of hope for what was possible. And, what we together created here at our Musea campus in Sonoma, California. Here we are.
When we gather together in circle, magic happens between us. Old stories fall away as laughter rises up. Hearts expand and consciousness awakens. The sacred space between is amplified and gives us courage to move forward with our work in the world. We each taught the women something they can take to their own circles. We called the women to call their own circles.
I was so encouraged by this gathering, of seeing what was possible when we gather. My love for the world came on strong and filled my soul.
When everyone was gone and our big school was quiet I felt tired, yet I also felt ecstatic. I poured myself a glass of our cool white wine, put my chair in the sun, let my hair down and the wind came. We have these winds here called anabatic winds… and it was a very hot day. So there I was with this warm wind flowing over my body, full sunshine in redwood trees and I just cried for joy. For the paradise this life is. My teacher Sue would say, there is nothing wrong with life, it is just how we live it. I let all the beauty wash over me, making love to the wind…
Then I came inside, called by one line….falling in love with the world again…and I wrote this for the group of women here, and for you.
How do you fall in love with the world? Let beauty happen to you. Then become beauty happening in the lives of others. Yet so many of us are withholding that love, that beauty that we live in an enforced self-imposed scarcity that we don’t need anymore. Enough hard stuff happens without us keeping ourselves from letting the beauty that is here INSIDE.
Today, the first rain came. As I listened to the sounds I prayed for our collective awakening. This could be paradise, is paradise, and let us spend more time, when we are able, letting that paradise wash over us. Today, can you go outside, find a point of beauty, and sit there with it, pull up a chair and fall in love.
The troubles will still be there when you are done basking in glory. Don’t take them with you. There are mini-sabbaths available all day long if you look for them. Waiting in line, driving in the car, being on hold. I savor every 5 minute sabbath like a jewel. I really do. This is because I am conscious of it and how precious it is. All day long, I weave my day with rest, and say : “I am resting” to my body.
Most people who know me say: “You are one of the hardest working people I know” but they also say “You are one of the most generous and most creative”. My secret is no secret, the word is out. I am in love with the world. Try it.
My husband is making coffee and the sounds of the kitchen are pairing up with the sounds of the rain, and it is glorious. I send this gloriousness to you…
These women are my hope for the world….
