Passing on the Wisdom: Painting by Shiloh Sophia 2009
A Blessing for All Kinds of Mamas
by Shiloh Sophia
This day we honor and celebrate
the mamas who have given life to us!
This is a blessing for all the women,
who are all different kinds of mamas
For those mamas to be,
cradling their expectant belly
For those today who are giving birth,
we send the strength of the circle of life
For the women who right now
are tilling fertile soil with new seed
This a blessing for those women
who tried so hard,
yet did not give birth to a child after all
For those who miscarried,
and those children we lost
we send love from our hearts to yours
For the women who died giving life
For women who chose consciously
not to have a child,
yet have mothered others
A blessing for the women in captivity,
and the women who are free,
yet still feel caged
For those who were mothered well
For those whose mamas
just didn’t know how
to raise you well enough
For those who had crazy mamas,
because any mama that did not love you well,
was not well enough
For the women who struggle
to care for their babies
For the women who right now
snuggle with little ones under feather comforters
For those who are having breakfast
made by their children
For those who are listening for the phone
For those whose mamas have gone on,
yet who are never gone from us
For those who are mamas way too young
For the women who can’t forgive themselves
for the babies the gave away, in one way or another,
may self forgiveness soften the hold on the past
For mamas who lost their babies too soon
who feel they can never be whole again,
to you, we send love beyond love
For those women who gave their mama love
to lovers, businesses, projects,
for you, to feel you are enough
even without having given birth
For those who wonder
if anyone will remember us when we are gone
For those who are mothering humanity
For single mamas who want a true mate,
who are working too hard for too little
For married mamas
who feel so blessed to be loved by another
For those who are coupled with partners
who do not see them in their fullness
For the mamas who, after giving birth
feel they lost their identity
For the mamas whose bodies changed so much
For those who never got to have a mama to hold them
For those who found their adopoted child
For those who found their birth mama,
and those, who did not, yet keep searching
For the foster mamas who give so much
to those they did not birth
For those whose children will not speak to them
For fairygod mamas, godmothers and godessmothers
For happy mamas whose children honor them
For sad mamas whose children just don’t know
For those who tried so hard
but still don’t feel like a good enough mama
For the mamas whose children struggle with
addiction, depression, divorce, danger
For those who are mamas of a creative lineage
All women today, we honor!
We unite in our love
for all of our quests for wholeness
connection, belonging, nurturing, healing
For Mama Earth, our home!
All life today, we celebrate!
Blessed Mother Life,
hear the prayers of your children this day
Open our hearts to hear
and our eyes to see
what you are speaking to us and through us
Give us your sound wisdom
For the Mama who gave birth to God,
we sing a hymn of praise!
For all beings who are in need re-mothering
For my birth mama and all those who mothered me
For all kinds of mothering not spoken,
for you….for you…for you Mama…
For our Foremothers from every land!

Mama and me dancing on my wedding night to Jonathan.
I just love the expressions on our faces. July 2014
Dear One,
I send you greetings today! However you are spending the day, I hope you will take some time to honor, your body, your mind, your spirit, your presence on earth. You got here because of your mama. And whether or not she is still here, spending some time pondering what made her life what it is, can be so grounding, and healing.
Recently someone asked me how I got to be who I am and what I am doing – my answer is: Love. Love from my mom, Caron McCloud. My mama, who I cherish beyond measure. The brilliant, the beautiful. If you want to spend some time with my mom, Caron today, here’s a talk and reading from my mom on beauty here, with an introduction and reading about Lenore Thomas Straus and how her words influenced Intentional Creativity© I also had so much love from the mother of my heart, Sue Hoya. She was always so excited to see me….and I miss that so much, how she said my name. I know I am so blessed to have two mamas. They treated me as a human being with creative capacity and something to say. For this, I am forever grateful.
The poem above is revised every year…I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to share and or cut and paste as you see appropriate.
Sending love to each of you…..
