She moves from the unseen into the seen
Shaking off the skins and veils and inviting something else
What the something else is, I have no idea
I wait for her to stop moving around
I want to get a better look at her
Even as I watch, she changes
Not what I thought
Not what I am thinking now
She is emergent, potentially dangerous
“I wasn’t expecting…you”
I feel my foundation rumble
My stomach grumble
My brush fumble
So it is with painting the Muse

Dear Ones,
When I’m fully in my painting process, just me in my studio with kitties Frida and Diego, revelations and deep thoughts about life often arise. This also happens during my morning Red Thread Cafe with my husband Jonathan. Red Thread Letters most often come out of these spaces. They are also in response to what I see, feel and know in my work with women and the ever changing world.
Following my last class, Midnight Muse, which the above image is from, I had some ideas come through about the deepest wound or greatest wound idea. Since I hang out with a lot of healer-types, we talk about this topic. Here are some of my thoughts, obviously you have your own on the topic. Maybe mine can just be here to stir things up a bit about what you might believe.
Our Deepest Wound Isn’t Always Our Greatest Gift
Our deepest wound isn’t always our greatest gift. Meaning that your greatest challenge isn’t necessarily ‘the thing’ that you are meant to transform and share with others, or the masses. It can be. But it isn’t always.
Let’s watch the absolutism of these ‘spiritualisms’.
Everything isn’t always on purpose or for a reason (crazy, I know…). Sometimes, but not every time.
Things are only a Truth if they are true ALL the time. Otherwise, they are something else – but not Truth. Maybe it is your truth, but that doesn’t mean it is someone else’s truth, so let’s not assume.
We throw these phrases around so casually…
We have so much to learn in how to respect others and ourselves with rigor in our language and projections. Our default settings are often in need of revision from popular culture assumptions.
I’m talking to you. I’m talking to me. This is something I’m trying to change within myself too.
As for me… My greatest wound is not my greatest gift. It has informed my actions and my journey for sure, but there is a difference. My greatest gift has come from the most soulful and whole part of me, not from the most wounded part of me. Though they do dance together…
We each have our own way. Let’s honor that, so that we can honor each other and the great mystery.
