When you think of creating, does fear arise?
Does your inner critic get really loud when you pick up that paintbrush or that pen?
Do you strongly desire to release the fear and connect more deeply with your Muse?
This letter is for you…
Red Thread Letter #775 from Shiloh Sophia
About Fear arising when one chooses to create, and what to do about it.
Would you like to learn more about this topic + how to become conscious by choice? I’m leading a free Livestream, Tuesday 12/3 Called to Awaken: Five Sacred Inquiries for Self Awareness.
Color of Woman 2020 : Applications due December 15 for Priority Enrollment. Global Online Training with gatherings in the US and AUS.
Dear One,
Recently I felt it was important to bring awareness to the fear that can arise when one chooses to create – whether that is a painting, drawing, song, poetry – or any other act in which you are accessing your own self expression and wisdom to make something.
When you begin to self express what is on the inside, you stir potent internal content. The fear making itself known may be dreaded, as well as welcomed.
The fear that is hidden, lives in us. Whether we act or not to move it, to free it, it is there, operating in the background.
Moving towards that which stretches us into new territory is part of the beauty of Intentional Creativity. Inviting that fear to become conscious, witnessing and letting it move along….if it will. If it won’t move, then more work is needed…but this work will come to us no matter what.
This fear is impacting us from the hidden places, and we don’t get to choose where and how. Usually, our relationships with self and others is most impacted by this hidden fear, suppressed over a long period of time.
Our part, here in this red thread, is to choose it in our time, and work with it through self expression. Not let it just come and grab us later and create a sudden melt down. Not that we can control ALL of it – but we can co-create with SOME of it. Intentional Creativity is saying yes to the co-creation of revealing that which is hidden, and the curation of that which we do have the power to access.
Chosen access is the key to chosen transformation. To actively engage through inquiry, creativity and intention. Creating art to access the hidden domains of being is dangerous territory – but I would assert that hidden fear is more dangerous to us as time goes on. To bring love, through the way we create, changes what gets created, changes us and changes the field around us.
Certain kinds of fear intensify, experiencing ourselves as having an enemy within. This ‘enemy’ will begin to move when we risk, stirring from an ingrained pattern. The reason why creativity can be part of this healing is because it will stir our experience of this inner enemy, at times called the critic, at times a meanness, at times a depression and many other night-dreams that make us feel less at home here. This stirring is the willingness to change. To look. To grow. To shape new stories.
Compassion is called for when inviting fear to come to tea with the Muse. Light the candle. Wet the brush. Fill the quill. Say the prayer. Be ready to act from the heart on your own behalf.
I want to close by saying the act of moving forward and taking that next step to create alongside the fear should be celebrated as a bold step towards freeing your own self expression. This is not an easy choice, yet one that is necessary to soften the voice of your inner critic and embrace your relationship with your Muse.
with gratitude for you and our connection,
Overcoming the fear of creating can only happen when we are creating. So let’s wet those paintbrushes!
I hope you will consider joining me for a free class and experiment in Metacognitive Consciousness. We will do simple Intentional Creativity® process with paper and pen + I will share Five Sacred Inquiries for Self Awareness. If you cannot attend live, we will provide the recording
