The reality that 1 in 3 women worldwide has experienced physical or sexual violence is a staggering statistic. We aren’t talking about it and acting about it in the way that we could be. Why? Lois Herman of WUNRN asks us a series of questions about why.
Today is the day the UNITED NATIONS declared the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Please read this post and take one small action along the red thread today to support women worldwide. Let’s love more deeply – and get conscious together.
Full Moon Blessings to you dear one,
My red thread cafe today is filled with love. Love of women. Love of life. Love of believing in change despite the evidence. I am inspired by the women in my community, close to 50 women who have already changed their profile pictures in support of today’s sacred work.
Today is the day the United Nations has designated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women: November 25. Today begins 16 days of activism against gender violence.
I have started this post with ways you can join us in this effort, followed by a message from one of my sheroes and mentors, Lois Herman of WUNRN, the Women’s United Nations Report Network. Please review the questions she has asked us to consider.
Thank you for stopping to read this. For becoming just a little bit more conscious through really knowing what is happening, and has been happening regarding women and girls. It isn’t getting better, violence and gender inequality is increasing.
We cannot afford to sit this one out. You don’t need to be an activist or feminist to become conscious and loving. If you just pause…with me…and millions world wide…in the quantum field that love ripples out in ways we can never know. We are a part of bringing the healing – and becoming more conscious about this issue and how it is affecting our world, our earth, and our families. Join me?
I would be honored to stand side by side with you today in this cause. Holding you and this conversation in the love humming along the red thread, woven with orange threads to light the world.
Part of my personal practice is to speak with women in danger in the ethers…I speak to them as my Beloveds as if I am with them where they are. I listen there and when I can, I act on behalf of those cosmic messages. This is part of how am with them, through imagining being with them where they are. This way of becoming present with suffering and on behalf of healing is a huge part of what has informed the Intentional Creativity™ Movement.
With a red thread of love I hope you can feel in a tangible way, from my heart to yours.
And may we share this love with all beings, and today, specifically with women and girls.
4 Ways to show your support of women in the world and in your life today.
1. BE ACTIVE and show your support: Change your FB and social media profile pictures to one of the woman symbol choices in my fb post or below – or one of your own paintings or designs that supports women. The woman’s symbol for today will be a big statement of showing support in a visual way.
2. BE EDUCATED and able to speak to this topic: Read up on violence against women so you can be informed and not be in the dark about this persistent reality. Consider sharing this post as a part of the education journey or write your own.
Explore the Orange the World campaign and how you can be a part of it for the next 16 days.
3. BE CONNECTED & Brave: Reach out to women in your life, on your FB page in your community in your blog, on your website, in your classes and let them know what today is about and your stand for women. And share this message with men in your life, which means being clear enough on what is happening to be able to speak about it to them. Be brave as men are a huge part of making this change and new language and energy needs to continue to go into how their part works in this transformation.
4. BECONSCIOUS and participate: Globally women and men are spending the next 16 days focused on honoring women and the elimination against violence. Light a candle, be a part of lighting the world, and participate with us in your own way – but most of all through consciousness and solidarity with a global heart of caring about the women of the world. What if you became conscious every day for 16 days about women and the world?

“UN Women calls Violence against Women a Global Pandemic. It is violence against families, communities, nations, and humanity. It is a threat to international peace and security. Today, on this International Day on Violence against Women, we must speak out and be part of creating solutions to end gender violence.
Violence against women occurs in the Public and Private Spheres. Intimate partner violence can be exceedingly painful and erode trust, commitment, love. There are laws on violence against women, but they are not easy to enforce. There may not be Due Diligence. And, law enforcement is often hesitant to enter the private sphere. Further, in a patriarchal world, women may be dominated and repeatedly victimized, with inadequate support or mechanisms to rebuild relationships and family.
1 in 3 women worldwide has experienced physical or sexual violence, mostly by an intimate partner.
Other forms of gender violence include rape, physical and emotional violence, sexual harassment, stalking, acid attacks, trafficking, female genital mutilation, forced and child marriage, and more. 4.5 million people are victims sexual exploitation, and 98% of them are women and girls.
So today, on this International Day on the Elimination of Violence Against Women 2015, and as we learn more about Gender Harmony, as this concept continues to fine tune and expand to show impressive successes against gender violence, let us consider some serious and significant rhetorical questions:
WHAT IS THE MOST RISKY, DANGEROUS HUMAN SITUATION IN THIS WORLD ? TO BE A WOMAN
WHAT GROUP OF PEOPLE IN TODAY’S WORLD SUFFER THE MOST PERSECUTION ? GIRLS
WHY IS VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN & GIRLS SO GLOBALLY PREVALENT, YEAR AFTER YEAR, IN SPITE OF LAWS & COUNTRY COMMITMENTS ?
WHY DO MEN OFTEN CHOOSE NOT TO PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN?
WHY DOES VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN CONTINUE TO BE A WEAPON OF WAR ?
WHEN STATES HAVE AN OBLIGATION UNDER INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS LAW TO INVESTIGATE & PROSECUTE HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS AND PROVIDE REMEDY FOR VICTIMS, WHY SO OFTEN, PERVASIVELY, DOES THIS NOT HAPPEN ?
WHY DO NEGATIVE GENDER STEREOTYPES EXACERBATE DISRESPECT, INEQUALITY, EVEN VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN & GIRLS?
WHY HAS VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN & GIRLS BECOME NORMALIZED IN SO MANY PARTS OF THIS WORLD?
WHY DO TRADITIONS & CULTURAL PRACTICES THAT PERPETUATE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN & GIRLS, CONTINUE WITHOUT REDRESS?
WHY DOES THE MEDIA GRAVITATE TO SENSATIONAL VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AS FEMICIDE ?
WHY ARE COUNTRY GENDER BUDGETS REPEATEDLY SHORTCHANGED AS FOR DATA, MONITORING, ENFORCING LAWS & PROGRAMS ON GENDER VIOLENCE ?
SO, WE HAVE THE CEDAW CONVENTION – No specific Violence against women component, but a General Recommendation and WE HAVE CEDAW COMMITTEE REVIEWS OF COUNTRY REPORTS.
WE HAVE THE BEIJING PLATFORM – AND +5, +10, +15, +20
WE HAVE THIS INTERNATIONAL DAY ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN – NOVEMBER 25.
WE HAVE THE 16 DAYS CAMPAIGN ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN.
WE HAVE THE UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN.
WE HAVE SO MANY RESOLUTIONS ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AS AT THE UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL, THE COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN, & THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
WE HAVE THE SECRETARY-GENERAL’S ONGOING PROGRAM TO UNITE AGAINST VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN>
BUT maybe, just maybe, we need to be more near-sighted, and look at ways to build respect and dignity, for honor, values, ethics, and especially in our core relationships of life.
WUNRN has found that poetry, art, photography, music, the creative media, can be a powerful force in addressing violence against women and girls. These cultural forms can be effective with sensitive relationship issues, and can be healing, restorative, inspirational. WUNRN releases regularly feature poetry, and each WUNRN Power Point ends with a poem. Women tell WUNRN that this poetry reflects women’s hearts and souls”.
SISTERHOOD OF WOMEN
Women of the world, girls of the planet,
We are all sisters.
Traumas and joys that happen to one,
Happen to us all.
Issues and rights, oppression and empowerment
Are part of woman’s challenge for equality, for dignity,
For we are bonded in the female spirit.
We reach out to learn, to understand each other.
Local to global, rural and urban, near and far, hugs and tears,
Now is our time!

Parts of this message were excerpted from Lois A. Herman’s post today as she is in Jakarta Indonesia – as a co-sponsor of the Gender Harmony International Conference. WUNRN, based on a UN Study, addresses the human rights, oppression, and empowerment of women and girls all over the world.
Lois Herman of WUNRN along with Lys Anzia of WNN are the ones who continue to educated me about what is actually going on in the world regarding women and girls and social justice, and are the women who have helped me got to the United Nations each year. I am humbled and honored to learn from them as I shape myself into a better human being.
p.s. thank you to Rachel Bavis Jaeger and Rocky Jaeger for making these graphics for us to share – for caring about it – and inspiring me towards more action.
Please contribute by sharing this message from the facebook post.
If you only did that, just one thing – you will be a part of the solution. There is so much more that we can do – and each of us will find our own way.
