Apothecary was born in 2018 when co-teacher Jonathan McCloud introduced the idea of transforming tragedies into remedies based on his own experience of PTSD from 7 years in the military as a pararescueman. He says the alchemical process takes a negative charge and can help transform it into a positive charge. This can happen with any kind of stuck energy, limiting belief, anxiety or fear you are experiencing.
If you’ve tried to overcome something in your past or current situation and it isn’t working, why not get a canvas and some paint and give Medicine Painting a try?
As Shiloh Sophia is taking a 30 Day Vigil to honor the passing of her mother, Caron McCloud, this message is sent from the Musea Collective on her behalf.
Apothecary will be delivered by the Intentional Creativity Guild. The curriculum is taught by Shiloh and Jonathan via pre-recorded video that you can download and keep for ongoing access. They will also be attending the closing circle to witness your paintings.
All genders are invited to take Apothecary. Purchase one ticket for you and a partner, spouse or family member to do the process together.
Don’t have a canvas? Head on over to your local arts and crafts store or order online and start when you are ready. You do not need to be an artist to take this course. It’s great for all levels of experience.
There is a payment plan available, as well as partial scholarship as needed. Email support@musea.org. Those who can afford the full price make it possible for us to support to those in need. Thank you!

Shiloh Sophia and Jonathan McCloud teaching Apothecary
Dear Ones,
As it turns out, transforming tragedies into remedies is a medicine many of us could use right now. After over a year of a pandemic and many experiencing isolation, job loss, caring for sick family members, homeschooling children, and more we have all been carrying our fair share of ‘stuff’ that could use some healing so a new story can unfold…
Through this wild time I am so grateful to have my husband Jonathan. We have cafe every morning as ritual – a time for connection, study and visioning the future of Musea. He is one of my greatest teachers and I love when I get to share his brilliant mind with you – such as in Apothecary.
People often don’t know that the foundation of ‘Medicine Painting’, as we teach it with Intentional Creativity, began with Jonathan’s idea coming from his experience as a soldier and a chef. Let’s just say he has a lot of experience with moving through stress and trauma and finding beauty and resolution.
Since Apothecary started in 2018 we have taught thousands in our community, both in-person and online, the healing power of Medicine Painting. The results students have shared with us are quite astounding, which is why we continue offering this foundational course once per year.
One student says “I have emerged on the other side after being subjected to sexual abuse for 8 yrs of my childhood by extended family members. I kept silent until my 30’s; have had years of therapy, searched countless avenues for healing, and with Medicine Painting I feel like I have finally come home and into my own arms. I am on my way back to my own wholeness now with tools for healing myself and my family, and am even now reaching out to others.”
This quote is more than I could hope for as a teacher. When our students experience the impact of healing through art, they often feel called to support others who are facing similar struggles that they went through.
This is exciting as we open applications in a couple of weeks for the Red Thread Training 2021 which offers certification as an Intentional Creativity Guide focused on teachings from my book, The Way of The Red Thread and Intentional Creativity. Apothecary is the pre-requisite course as you learn about storytelling, ritual, embodiment, ceremony, intention, marking, prayer and more that will be further explored in the training. You can get on the list for when applications open here.
People often ask us to create classes where men can come, and we have. This is it – all genders welcome! Often, creativity is thought of as something women do…but truly this can be a heart opener and story-changer for all of us. We truly invite you to bring the men in your life to the canvas. Jonathan agreed to do this because I told him it was important for the men in our community….those men connected with women in Intentional Creativity.
With Jonathan’s history as a dairy farmer, losing his dad at a young age, his Veteran experience and the tragedy that came from that, then close to 30 years as chef and sommelier in the food world, he has quite a story to tell. And the way he has worked with transforming frustration into determination. He shares his story in the course, addressing PTSD directly.
In medicine painting we don’t just go dig up old stories…rather we are ONLY looking at the stories which keep us from feeling how we want to feel in our lives. We use the metaphor of the apothecary as the place to keep your personal medicine, and invite you to create your own antidotes to what ails you. YOU become the medicine maker. You learn to transform the energy, language and image of things that have held you back, into power, your antidote.
Even if you have looked at your stuff over and over, you haven’t looked at it like this. And at the end you will have a very cool painting to represent the physical work that was done. So often healing work is almost invisible, as it happens in the mind, the body and energy – this process makes it VISIBLE and believable. Which helps our eyes to see, our brain to believe and our energy to shift.
Here is an Apothecary painting by Intentional Creativity Teacher, Juniper Mainelis. Take a moment to soak in the books, medicines, red thread and other symbols like the mermaid!
Whatever you are working to transform, this can be the next step in the journey. Intense and fun, deep and pleasurable, potent and filled with potential.
Jonathan and I also share about the quantum connection that brought us back together after a year and ten days of being apart. For me, Apothecary is a love story…and I am proud that so many students have enjoyed it year after year.
