“When women reassert their relationship with their wildish nature, they are gifted with a permanent and internal watcher, a knower, a visionary, an oracle, an inspiratrice, an intuitive, a maker, a creator, an inventor, and a listener who guides, suggests, and urges vibrant life in the inner and outer worlds.”
~ Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés

Legend Mystic painting in process…
Dear Ones,
It may seem an outrageous idea to choose you as a focus. Since I moved to the hills of Napa in July, I’ve experienced heat waves, electrical outages, multiple evacuations due to wildfires and now I’m in a 3-day electricity blackout. Our communications director, Sarah Mardell, is sending this letter on my behalf as I sit here with candles lit and kitties on my lap. Jonathan made our coffee connected to a generator – for which I was most grateful.
I don’t often check the news in the morning because I simply want my brain for myself before ever looking out to what’s happening in the world – hence the sacredness of my morning cafe, but right now everything feels a jumble…
As I survey the news this morning, I find myself in such shock at the topics and range of conversations that we as humans are expected to deal with. Yet many historians and professors of today say this is one of the safest times that humans have ever experienced, so why does it feel this way? Is there anything we can do about it?
It may be counterintuitive to consider yourself first when you are called to tend so many things that are in need, especially those who are in greater need than you are. The narrative around town and places that have gone through hard times is the constant affirmation of gratitude that something worse didn’t happen. Every time someone says that to me I say something back to them like “yes, the worse didn’t happen and how you feel is still valid”. I often get strange smiles or tear-filled eyes that just because something horrible didn’t happen doesn’t mean it didn’t feel horrible and traumatic.
As this sign reminded me one morning on a walk to cafe ‘This too shall pass’, and yet, this is a very challenging time and I want to acknowledge that. Honoring how we feel right now is one of the ways we are going to navigate the buzz word of “resiliency”. In my experience we are all doing the best we can to manage our energy moment by moment.
The other night I awoke from a strange dream due to howling winds, black trees blowing like crazy in the moonlight and a windstorm like we’ve never had before… I felt my anxiety rising in my heart and so I did a new meditation I’m teaching during VIVID called Motherboard: The Intentional Creativity Coherence Meditation, where you invite different aspects of yourself to be in coherence – your physical body with the field. After a few rounds in just a few minutes, I was able to find a place of complete peace within myself. This was a decision I made and a tool I have cultivated for years. In fact, I’ll be sharing it tomorrow during the Women Between Worlds complimentary seminar for our community.
So, I’m here today to gently remind you that we each have the power to co-create with our own thoughts. The choice to practice self tenderness is often right in front of us. What can you do today to nurture your beautiful soul that may need some witnessing and nourishing… Meditation, creativity and connecting with community in whatever way possible will be increasingly necessary as we become more connected to our authentic legendary self.
In closing, if you haven’t registered for VIVID 2020 and would like to have a 7-day experience of choosing yourself and painting your Legend Mystic, join us! Even if you cannot participate in real-time, you can go at your own pace. Imagine being included in a virtual circle of over 150 women committed to choosing and focusing on their own self-expression and evolution.
I am so grateful for you along my red thread,
p.s. A gathering of mystic creatives would not be complete without these two women. Mary MacDonald aka StellaMac is our VIVID MC along with community member Anasuya Isaacs.
