Ever since I was a little girl
I remember my teacher and mother of my heart,
Sue, talking about synaptic junctions
and repatterning my brain.
She wanted me to understand that creativity
was the way I could invite co-creative repatterning.
As I got older, we would watch Stephen Hawking
and have tea by the fire (we call this ‘cafe’).
He said:
“Even if there is only one possible unified theory,
it is just a set of rules and equations.
What is it that breathes fire into the equations
and makes a universe for them to describe?”
We would talk and draw for hours
about being at cause for making change,
with the body as an integral part of the process.
She taught me a lot of things I use every day.
One of them, is this:
“You don’t change your brain by ‘thinking’
about your brain
or just sitting on your zazen pillow.
You change your brain synapses through
repeated physical activity,
paired with mental activity and intention.”
She taught me what Donald Hebb said in 1949
“Neurons that fire together, wire together.”
Hebb was a neuropsychologist best known for work in
the field of associative learning.
Our exposure to negativity,
responding to pattern in our
life circumstances,
is, as you know,
literally shaping our brain function.
In order for neurons to
fire together and wire together,
what must one do?
My experience is that inviting
a firing and wiring together experience
is a lot easier than we “think”.
What if instead of thinking,
we actually DID something with our body
in collaboration with our brain?
But what do you do? You might be asking.
How do you repattern what feels like
a deeply embedded childhood pattern?
If we could change it by thinking about it
we would have already done that
once we identified the issue.
But we aren’t seeming to
be changing that way, are we?
It can be a little disappointing
for those of us
who try to change through thinking.
To change through thinking
may take more mastery and
Much more time
than working directly
with the senses and the body.
The patterns we are working with are not just in the
brain, so why limit our belief in our ability to heal
being connected to that place alone?
The body and field must be considered, together.
This IS what we do in Intentional Creativity,
inviting our students to initiate a process which
fires together and wires together through art.
The results of these changes are pure joy to behold.
Would you like to experience this for yourself?
We have several events starting this week…

Intentional Creativity, our study and practice of
creativity as a pathway to transformation
is largely based on Sue’s initial research
as a biological illustrator
(for textbooks and at Stanford University)
as applied through creativity in action,
what she called to
“commit art”
We invite our students to be at cause for the change….
through literally drawing the repatterning
and initiating neurons to fire,
and painting the change we wish to see,
while feeling it happening in real time.
Through art
the senses initiate
the mind designs
the body makes
the eyes see
the brain believes
and
the repetition enforces
the change over time.
You don’t have to wait for a trauma
to make this change,
although most of us do.
What if you could do art instead?
That is what thousands of women a month
are practicing together,
bringing the idea of
Firing Together -:- Wiring Together
to a whole new level inside
a collectively held field.
Consider that a few weeks ago in Hydra’s Flare
(a painting class)
we had thousands of women
creating together
over a few-day period.
Could it be possible that
because of the collectively held field,
our capacity to transform is amplified?
Science and spirit agree,
that it cannot be otherwise.
We are helping each other transform
through impacting a shared field.
Our chosen awareness is what make this possible
I am not a scientist, I am an artist.
Yet I have studied and created results for close to 30
years through a devoted, daily practice in one area:
How Creativity Heals and Transforms
My life work had been devoted to reverse engineering
what I have experienced about how this works and
sharing it with you all of you.
Once Jonathan came into my life,
he offered the added
quantum approach I needed
to give language to what
I already knew and was practicing.
We can change.
It isn’t that easy
and it isn’t that hard.
You have to show up for the work!
I am interested in working with women
who are willing to show up for the work and do
what it takes to enter new territory.
What happens when flow and form come together
for our good? More than you can imagine…
Experts say, that depending on the kind of activity
being practiced the brain can begin changing
within a few days to a few weeks,
depending on the focus area.
Imagine WEEKS devoted to this change,
and what might be possible!?
It’s really exciting and I love
geeking out on this stuff.
Let’s be at cause for waking up – together.
Joe Dispenza says this
“If you want a new outcome, you will have to break the habit of
being yourself, and reinvent a new self.”
That is pretty much our cup of tea at Musea : Center for Intentional Creativity.
Blessings where you are, from where I am!

Red Thread Letter #807 Fire Together -:- Wire Together

Sue Hoya Sellars 1936-2014 Frameworks Unfinished
“If we understand the ‘wires’ in the rewiring metaphor to be axons, then it is important to understand that the brain’s wires barely move. What gets modified through plasticity is primarily the connection between the axon of one neuron and the cell body of the other — the synapse. Its size, shape and biophysical properties change as a result of behavior, experience, and other factors including bodily state and health.” Quora Quote

UPCOMING VIRTUAL and SONOMA EVENTS
Each of our upcoming events is designed to work directly with the brain and the self, discovering new and powerful ways of working. Make this Summer a season of change through unbridled self expression. If you have been holding yourself back, join the rest of us wild ones and let’s dive in!
Two free events plus new curriculum happening soon!
