“Real isn’t how you are made,’ said the Skin Horse. ‘
It’s a thing that happens to you.
When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with,
but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.

Red Thread Letter #764: Becoming Real
Dear One,
Yesterday felt like a real day. A real human being day.
Starting with waking in the black of morning on Terra Sophia. Writing poetry that rocked my world, truly and reminded me who I am and what I carry. Followed by cinnamon honey coffee with my husband. Then a cosmic exchange with Jena, my precious friend and co-leader in all things cosmic. We then set up circle under the trees for our intimate group of 7. My friend that I have known since I was 23 and first came to the mountain came and played music. We set the altar. She washed me with sweet grass. Friends old and new came to the circle. We painted outside under the trees, saw butterflies, laughed and told stories, we went on intuitive walks to find our own ‘magic stick’. We enjoyed a lunch prepared by two men, watermelon salad with shrimp, ribeye, squid ink pasta, salmon with plums, local mushrooms with a wine tasting of Anderson Valley Pinot. We went on a drum journey, we drew pictures, we articulated our personal knowing into curriculum, and we shared human space. We had lemon cake. Gifts were shared. We prayed for a baby girl in a mama’s belly. The day closed with watching the sunset with my love, and early bed time and sleeping all night. A real day. A real exchange that makes me and us, more and more real.
There are lots of writings and teachings and spiritual practices on becoming a real human being. But what does it mean really, for you? Can it even be taught? I am not sure it can, but if it can, I am going to try. I was raised in conscious of a context as anyone could hope for and so it has been a persistent inquiry for me pretty much as soon as I could form a sentence.
Perhaps it starts with self awareness, followed the sparking desire to be as much you as you can be…
What do you think? What is ‘real’ anyway?
Do you feel that you are, as conscious as you can be?
Do you feel, you have become real?
How exactly DOES someone become themselves? In what way? Even if you wanted to, how would you go about, becoming real? This is what Intentional Creativity is all about, it ‘happens’ to you through creating. I want to teach you the why’ and ‘how’, and how you can share this with others in your life in real time.
I want to share the inner workings of my 25 years of research into creativity, consciousness and compassion with you. And, the science behind WHY it works and how knowing that can inform us how to do it again and again. Spiritual phenomenon is awesome…and random. When we know the science behind the veil, our capacity to not only understand increases, it amplifies the actual experience, expands embodiment and gives us the tools to go further.
In the case of the Skin Horse, becoming real happens through love…with others.
“Real isn’t how you are made’, said the Skin Horse. ‘It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.’ Does it hurt?’ asked the Rabbit. ‘Sometimes,’ said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. ‘When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.’ ‘Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,’ he asked, ‘or bit by bit?’ ‘It doesn’t happen all at once,’ said the Skin Horse. ‘You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”

May you do something today, whether pausing to truly smell the air around you, gazing at flowers, holding a beloved or truly witnessing a child, to feel like a real human being.
blessings on your day,
